Services and Memorials

HARDEMAN, TOM

Thomas Lindley Hardeman won his battle with pancreatic cancer August 20, 2006. With his family gathered in celebration, Tom passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Tom was born August 12, 1937 in Ventura California sharing that birthday with both his mother and father Thomas and Ida Hardeman. He married the love of his life Eileen August 22, 1958 and provided love, security and happiness for her and their three children DeeDee (Flores), Tom, and Cari (Sepulveda). He reveled in the pride and joy of nine grandchildren, Kristin and Bo Flores, Elizabeth, Tom and Julie Hardeman, Rachel, Tim and Sam Tenpenny and Caleb Sepulveda, as well as his great-grandson Bradyn Thomas Hardeman.

Tom spent 38 years with United Parcel Service, retiring as Corporate Vice President. Retirement was a launching pad for the most fulfilling stage of his life as he poured himself out in service to others.

Tom’s greatest passion was using his gifts and talents to advance God’s kingdom and work. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the WSFC Building Fund, P.O. Box 5928 Salem, Oregon 97304.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Joe Kuhn, Dr. John Nemunaitis, the physicians and staff of the Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center. They made our journey one of joy and hope and allowed Tom to contribute to the eventual eradication this disease.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship. 4141 International Parkway Carrollton, Texas 75007. Aloha attire acceptable. Visitation will be Wednesday August 23, 2006 between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home.

Cari, I am Rayne Poussard, UPS retired 1/31/99, I had the privilege to know and work with Tom in Corporate Public Affairs at UPS in Washington, DC back in the 80's and 90's. We are all truly saddened to learn of Tom's battle with cancer and the valiant fight he fought. We can take comfort too in knowing Tom is truly a diciple of Christ and I am certain he is residing in the house of the lord at this moment. Tom was a good and decent and thoroughly honorable man in action, words and deed. I must also applaud Tom's loving family in sharing this Blogspot with others. Who could read Tom's grandson Bo's poignant message and tribute to his Grandpa and not wipe away a tear? Bo is just a young man who looks like a bookend of Thomas L. Hardeman himself. I was left thanking God that Tom lives on through his beautiful and bright children and grandkids! My heartfelt condolences to the entire Hardeman family on the enormous loss of your mother Eileen's beloved Tom, your father and your beautiful children’s grandfather as he ends his earthly life to be with our lord and savior in heaven.

Thank you for sharing your pain, sorrow, joy, and happiness through this chapter in Tom's life with us his friends and acquaintenances from around the country.

God bless you all,
Rayne Poussard

Faith In The Furnace
by Tommy Nelson

The love of God in truth and act
Enlightens, blesses, pole to pole
But in its wide benevolent sweep
It reaches down into The Hole
The dark place where the wounded lie
Those in confusion... darkness... low
In rooms whose corridors are slight
Where light from God alone can go.
Where prayer can seem a lifeless fax
Where truth seems brittle on the page
Where faith flies by its instruments
And clings to facts from ancient days.
But ah the wisdom... the perspective... oh the vision from its depth
What learning from its high tuition
What different view its hand has left.
Of others, values, God and sin
Thyself, the world and sovereignty
Of purpose, love, the church and suffering
The moment 'gainst eternity.
Before the veiled and dark instructor
Bows his student to beseech
And learns indeed there is no place
That is so deep that God can't reach.

Hello Hardemans...I was so saddened to learn of Tom's passing. I was not saddened for him--he was a great man who left a tremendous legacy for all who knew him. I was saddened for those of us who remain, whose time with Tom was all-too-short, and who could have learned far more from this great man than our years together allowed. Yet, like you, I celebrate the fact that this parting is only a temporary one and that we will be able to enjoy eternal fellowship because of his decision, and ours, to receive and honor Christ Jesus as our Savior and Lord.

You are in my prayers.

I am truly saddened that I am not able to be there with all of you during this very difficult time. Tom (Mr. Hardeman as I always knew him) was always such a strong man and the truest example of Christian faith and love. I will always remember his very large grin and his ability to fill a room with his huge presence.

One of my fondest memories of him might have seemed insignificant at the time, but it was a true testament to how he always lived his life. During Courtney's wedding, I was watching from the sidelines and taking it all in. Tom came up to me, took my drink out of my hand and said, "Get out there and dance." And that is what he always did. He got out there and danced because he knew that life was a precious gift from God, everyday, and this is how he lived until his last day.

I hope you that you can cherish this memory of him with me and know he will always hold a place in my heart.

Love,
Brooke Getter

Eileen, Cari, Tommy and Dee Dee, I can't tell you how much of my business character is so completely due to Tom's influence on me. Tom was my prayer partner in EE for a semester and the wisdom that I so much needed for that time in my life didn't have anything to do with EE but business delimmas having to do with the right way to work. The thing that I have always tried to remember and pass on whenever I could was to "do it as unto the Lord". That wisdom has served me so well in my life. We are so sorry for your loss but we know he is looking into the face of Jesus and getting his "well done, my good and faithful servant". Just know that we will be praying for all of you.

Hi Cari,

Stacy Schmidt here, (Robert's wife, John & Lois' first daughter-in-law). Just wanted to share, we loved Tom so much! He & Eileen have been there for us in prayer through many things. They rejoiced with us over the births of our sons and if it wasn't for them we would have stood during our wedding & reception, as they were the ones who got us our tables & chairs. You know it's silly but the thing I will miss most is Tom's hugs. Not for the reason you would think, as I am a tall person at 6' in shoes, he always made me feel small. I really liked that. :) I can't wait to celebrate with him in heaven. I wish we could be there tomorrow for services but, times are hard. We are with you in spirit. Laugh for us, remember that Tom's influence out here in California was great! After all, he always started a house renovation/improvement project while he was out here :) heheheh! John & Lois' house is wonderful due to Tom's restlessness and "let's just do it" attitude! I was always bummed that I didn't have a 'house' for him to come stay at. We truly love you all and our prayers are with you. Tom was a wonderful man with God's light shining brightly through him.

Love,
Stacy
